NFC tap to give plaque

Task

A giving plaque for churches: tap a phone to give, or scan the QR code. I designed the product and how it’s made. After our testimonial video with Grace Church, Church Unlimited, a multisite church in Texas, ordered it in volume.

A plaque you tap to give

Grace Church in Newmarket was growing fast, and everything ran on paper. New visitors filled out cards by pen, and giving was mostly cash, in an offering bucket on Sunday. A QR code on the big screen didn’t work, because people won’t hold a phone up at a screen. It had to sit at every seat.

Built to sit on a chair for years

Working with our CEO and the client, we paired NFC with a backup QR code, so people can scan if their phone can’t tap or tapping is new to them. One tap opens a page the church changes itself: giving, prayer requests and a digital connection card that feeds their database.

Role

Product design and manufacturing

The brief

A giving plaque that sits on a church chair for years, survives being stacked, takes foil, and costs little enough to order by the thousands.

The build

A laminated card with the NFC chip sealed inside, finished with hot lamination and raised foil, then cut on a digital die cutter that runs unattended.

Why hot lamination

It’s cheaper than the cold lamination most shops use.

Result

Church Unlimited, a multisite church in Texas, ordered it in volume.

In the pastor’s words

My team filmed a testimonial at Grace Church, and I demo the plaque in it. Our sales team used the video to win Church Unlimited, a multisite church in Texas.

“Something that will help your people easily connect with you, make giving simpler.”
